First, what exactly is a Life Wheel worksheet?
What Is A Life Wheel Worksheet?
During this simple exercise, you rank your satisfaction with areas of your life on a scale of 1 -10. There is no correct or wrong answer, you just give each area a numerical “score” based on your satisfaction. Then plot your score on the worksheet and see how balanced your wheel is.
Some good areas (in no specific order) to include in a Life Wheel assessment are:
-
- Physical Environment
- Spirituality
- Career
- Health & Fitness
- Family
- Personal Growth
- Romance
- Friends
- Financial
- Fun & Recreation
A Great Place To Start
When planning goals it can be a good idea to first asses where you are. The Life Wheel is a great starting point to assess your current satisfaction with different areas of your life. By using a Wheel of Life worksheet, you can see which areas of your life might need more focus than others.
A Good Tool For Reflection
While using this tool, consider completing the activity quarterly (every three months) to see what has changed in each category. The idea is not necessarily to have a perfectly round wheel but to plot a visual representation to discover areas you might feel are lacking. These areas are usually good areas for goals. As you achieve goals you will see your satisfaction in that area of life rise. You might be surprised to see how your numbers can change over time.
Setting Goals
Try setting at least one SMART goal for each category in the Wheel of Life exercise. If an area has a high satisfaction ranking set a smaller goal. When an area has a low satisfaction rating try to define why that is and set some bigger goals to improve the area.
